The Count of Monte Cristo

Heads Up!!! For this review I put the synopsis at the end. Simply because I think it’s better to watch this anime without knowing the general plot. I decided to watch it like that & I’m so glad I made the decision. But, of course, it’s up to you. It’ll only work if you don’t know about the book either but if you did I advise you to read the synopsis

My Thoughts

First of all, since I didn’t watch this when it was first streamed, I became very curious and had various expectations for it; considering all the praise it has gotten. And I’m glad to say I’m not disappointed. Well, i don’t know that if it was hype that tricked me into liking it (Twilight anyone?) but looking back now I still find it enjoyable. One thing I liked in particular was the centered plot. What I mean by that is that there is no stray moments. Everything is dedicated to relativity. Well, there are some here and there but…eh. Another thing would be animation and colors. They’re eye-catching and makes you think “Wait, this may be a good anime”. But the No. 1 thing about No.6 (see what I did there?) is the character interaction/character development. Especially between Shion and Nezumi. Each time they fought I held my breathe and each time they played nice my heart raced. And at the end when they’re both-wait. You’ll find out for yourselves. :D Ok, I’ll stop. But trust me, don’t skip out on this one. It’s worth it.

The Good

Character interaction is wonderful. The show is very in control of the mood.

The Bad

In my opinion, the ending went by a little too fast. And the series felt short.

Additional

There is a on-going manga. As of now, it has not picked up where the anime left off.

Black Rock Shooter-Two Friends, Two Worlds

Synopsis

Mato Kuroi just got into junior high school, and on the first day, someone catches her eye; her classmate Yomi Takanashi. The two meet. The innocent and naive Mato. The mature Yomi. Seemingly opposites, but the time they spend together only strengthens a growing friendship. But as they go into their second year at the school, they get placed in separate classes, and they begin to grow apart. But somewhere simultaneously… In another world, a young girl, blue fire residing in her eyes, Black Rock Shooter faces another young girl; this one holding a jet-black scythe, Dead Master, and a battle to the death begins to unfold. (ANN)

My Thoughts

When I first heard about Black Rock Shooter I was seriously excited. Seriously. The first thing I fell in love with was the designs and overall vividness/color contrast. There were all so good. But BRS isn’t just skin-deep; The plot and storytelling is strange yet intriguing. I mean, how would you incorporate intense fight scenes with a normal school-based routine which later turns into a suspense/mystery.But, nevertheless, the story keeps you wanting for more. But I’m not going to lie, there were several times were i thought things were…”quite” which sometimes translates to “boring”. For some reason I think it was intentional, but it can turn many people off.  And also,  [Spoiler] the ending doesn’t solve the

mystery of the reason for the connection of the two worlds.

The Good

The story is appealing in many ways.

The Bad

There are some loose ends by the end.

Additional

There’s an up-coming series. And Black Rock Shooter started out from  a popular song. Fun fact.

Strike Witches-When Neuroi Attacks

Pants are sooo last century.

Synopsis

The year is 1939 – it was then that the Neuroi appeared. Nobody knows where they came from or what their ultimate agenda is, but the fact remains that their attacks drove people out of their towns and cities. In order to take arms against them, humanity develops a new anti-Neuroi weapon called the “Striker Unit.” Using the power of magic to fight against the monsters, this new device enhances and amplifies the power of female magic-wielders. To use this device, young witches from all over the world have been brought together to form an elite task force unit called the 501st Joint Fighter Wing, commonly known as the “Strike Witches.” (ANN)

 My Thoughts

OK class , I want you to note that this series has a serious lack of pants. Apparently, fit and attractive young women are banned to wear pants or skirts of any kind. Please be mindful of this and enjoy the show. :D Now that I have that out of the way,  let’s get serious. Sure, Strike Witches is famous for it’s fanservice but it also has several redeeming qualities. One of them being its plot. Because it has a military based plot, when you mix it with the characters’ care-free attitude, you get a series that’s refreshing and unique. There are several instances of comic relief and serious tension. But even though the plot should be the main thing about a series, the whole show revolves around character development. Something I absolutely love. The audience grows with the characters & knows their personality, while not knowing exactly what they’ll do next. But the one thing I would give this show a round of applause for is it’s integration of all the fanservice, plot, character development, action scenes, and comedy. There’s something for everyone without being bothered or annoyed by anything else. For example, too much fanservice makes me gag, but I didn’t really “notice” it when all the other components pulled me in.

The Good

The way the whole series comes together nicely as one nice package.

The Bad

Sometimes the storyline and the plot diverge. As in…there are filler episodes and times where things aren’t as set as they should be. If that makes sense.

Additional

There are 2 seasons, an OVA, and even an up-coming movie. Excitement… :D

Tower of Druaga the Aegis of Uruk

Let's Climb that Tower!

Synopsis

The Summer of “Anu”: In a summer once every five years, demons in the mysterious Tower of Druaga lose their powers due to the magic spell cast by a god named “Anu”. King Gilgamesh, ruler of the kingdom Uruk, uses the appearance of demons as an excuse to invade the tower and find out the construct’s secrets. As 80 years passed, the Uruk army managed to fight back the demons and built a fortress city and safe haven on the very first floor of Druaga – Metz Kier. Thus begins the story of a warrior named Jil who, finding companions along the way, embarks on a quest for the fabled Blue Crystal Rod, a powerful artifact rumored to be in the highest floor of Druaga. However, other competitors, including the kingdom of Uruk itself, want the treasure, all for their own reasons. (ANN)

My Thoughts

Alright to be honest I barely remember what this one was about :) so in my own summary the series is about climbing up a tower to find the “magical” rod that rants all your wishes. Yay!…yeah… Well if your thinking “Sorta like a video game?” Yes, because ,well, the series is based on a video game (go figure) The show feels like a game and like an anime at the same time, which is nice and well done. But as for the plot I can say it works out in a way that is positive. Now if you’re asking “What the hell does that mean?” I’ll tell you…nothing actually. The plot does what it’s supposed to do, keep you interested until the end. In other words forgettable (so I was telling the truth ^^;) As for the characters, they can get pretty interesting but there are only two (or maybe just one-Neeba) who have any real “depth” to them. Also, the relationships engage viewers, too. The action scenes are notable and animation is cheap at times (I mean white blob monsters? SRSLY?!)  There is comic relief at times. All in all, while you’re watching this you’ll actually like it, but in hindsight it losses all the glitter and sparkle. And Ultimately, Forgettable.

The Good

No doubt you will find yourself liking this and think I’m 110% wrong.

The Bad

Down the road you’ll find that I’m 200% right. Booyah!

Additional

There is a season two.
